Recently, we have been involved in the engineering of DER (Distributed Energy Resources). We have designed the control centre and data concentrator for a 5 megawatt “Peaker Plant” near Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. This system is responsible for triggering the start up and synchronization of generators to the electrical grid, which export power to utility. Our custom software will monitor the real time price of power, and can initiate a start based on a threshold price. The system we created also monitors and logs data from the system protection relays and will send notifications over text or email if there is any cause to be alarmed!
